About us:

BROOKGLYNN, 23- Fashion stylist and co-designer of Glamhuer™-- I’m a Fashion Marketing and Management major at The Illinois Institute of Art. I’ve always been a trendsetter and loved fashion, but I never knew I would become a designer. I’ve always had a creative sense of style, loved doing hair and make-up but didn’t know what to do with it. After wasting a few boring years studying at Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville as a business major, I got fed up, packed my bags, headed back to Chicago and found my niche. While studying at AI I realized how talented I was and how much creativity I was holding back. I began by reconstructing my old garments and turning them into completely different pieces. Every time I walked down the streets people would ask where I got it. It helped me get my first gig as a fashion stylist. While working at the Gap on the mag mile, a lady approached me and asked where I got my sense of style. I told her I was a fashion stylist and went on to coordinate her entire wardrobe! From then on I’ve styled several photo shoots and my clientele continues to grow. I got my name by combining my first and middle name, how cool! I’m also a hair stylist and make-up artist. I do the hair and make-up for all our photo shoots and fashion shows. I even got to style hair for the cover of Indigo newspaper!

I would say my style is…glamorous, whimsical and mysterious!!!

I’m a free spirit who loves to live glamorously!

Ashley S. the EARRINGBRAT, 21-- I grew up in a creative household, my mother is a designer and my sister sews, so sewing and creating has been embedded in me since a child.

I have about ten sewing machines in my house!!!! I started my own earring line (ASHLEY S. DRAPES) two years ago because I have a great passion for dramatic earrings that are light. My earrings are featured in all of our shows and are also now being sold in Fat Rabbit Boutique in Chicago. I gained the name “EARRINGBRAT” because I create earrings out of anything! For two years I attended a major university, Chicago State, and realized I stuck out like a sore thumb….so I transferred to AI. When I started studying at AI for fashion design, I got more into my own true sense of style and found my niche, I began experimenting with my creativity and started off just reconstructing vintage garments before I even began to study pattern making and construction, since then I haven’t turned back!!

My style is eclectic, psychedelic, and glam!!!!!

How we got started:

While studying at AI (The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago) we met during a fashion course and immediately bonded! We started shopping at thrift stores and fell in love with vintage glam. We kept that concept in mind and began to create garments with that same old school vibe with a modern eclectic twist. We started reconstructing garments and people were like “that’s haute where did you guys get that” we figured why not make all our own clothes and start a line. That’s when Glamhuer™ was born. We wanted exposure for our line so we approached a close friend for an opportunity to throw our own fashion show to launch Glamhuer™. We gave him the plan and he gave us just two weeks to pull it all together. Meaning, we had only two weeks to coordinate, produce and fund an entire fashion show, finish our line, scout models, find designers, a DJ etc. We accepted and quickly got to work. With just us two we pulled it off, out of all the craziness “Urban Ja’dore” was a success! Did we mention that Ashley made all the earrings for the show, and Brookglynn did hair and make-up for the show! Whew! Boy were we two tired sisters…After working so hard on something you love we can’t help but keep at it. We love soft 80’s glam!

Our inspirations:

We’re inspired by moguls, people who worked tremendously hard to achieve their dreams, people who made a way for themselves when nobody believed in them and called them crazy, people who think outside the box.

Brooke’s favorite designers: Balenciaga, Roberto Cavali, Alexander McQueen, Betsy Johnson, and Heatherette

Ashley’s favorite designers: Tracy Reese, KESH, Vivienne Westwood, Heatherette, and D&G

Collectively:

We inspire ourselves, devoted to becoming known in this competitive world of fashion. We are motivated by our hard work, when girls put on our garments they feel a new sense of confidence and that’s what motivates us.

The hardest part of designing:

The designing is easy for us, but the politics are the toughest part.

Pros of working as a team:

The best part of working as a team is that we strengthen each others weaknesses. Where I’m weak Ash is strong vise versa! We both have different styles which are shown in Glamhuer Clothing; the bridge between glam and eclectic style. We both are very driven individuals, combined there’s no stopping us!

Where we want our line to go in the future:

We have huge aspirations to become mainstream designers! Inspiring young girls across the world and showing them no dream is too big to conquer…
